Advantages of using ZMA
It is known that intensive physical exercise and severe mental stress deplete the body's zinc and magnesium reserves (increased secretion in urine and sweat). Many athletes, who do not succeed in supplementing these essential components through their diet, are at high risk of developing magnesium and zinc deficiency with significant damages to their physical strength and endurance. Daily consumption of the food supplement Z.M.A will prevent this essential mineral deficiency.

About the formula components

Zinc
Zinc is an anabolic mineral stimulating rehabilitation and recovery of muscle tissue injured during training. Zinc deficiency may decrease the strength component, thus harming physical performance ability.
Zinc strengthens the effect of the hormones IGF-1 and testosterone. In the body testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by means of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. DHT has a higher binding affinity for the androgen receptor than testosterone and so it diminishes the anabolic effect of testosterone in the body.
Zinc, and particularly zinc in combination with vitamin B6, inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase and the formation of DHT.
Stamadiatis and colleagues found that a combination of vitamin B6 and zinc could inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase up to 90%. Furthermore, it was found that zinc deficiency caused a decrease in serum testosterone while zinc supplementation doubled the concentration in men who had low levels of the hormone. It appears that zinc deficiency lowers testosterone activity due to a decrease in the number of hormone receptors.
In addition, zinc is essential for the proper functioning of many enzymes that are involved in processes preventing the accumulation of lactic acid, which is called "the fatigue acid".

Magnesium
Magnesium stimulates energy release processes (both in aerobic and anaerobic metabolism), is involved in anabolic processes in muscle tissue and improves muscular strength; is involved in improvement of muscular endurance and contributes to relaxation of the muscle.
Magnesium also activates important enzymes of carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism.
Magnesium deficiency harms oxygen transport to muscle tissue and may cause fatigue and muscle cramps.
Helbig and colleagues showed that magnesium supplementation before a body building competition helped to reduce muscle cramps and spasm.
In a study examining the effect of magnesium supplementation on strength.
Statistically significant training in humans, strength parameters were measured before and after a strength-training program of 7 weeks. Results showed that the muscular strength parameter in the group that took magnesium increased by 26% compared to only 10% in the group that took placebo.

Advantage of patented mineral binding in ZMA
Z.M.A was designed to achieve optimal absorption and availability of zinc and magnesium. The patented binding of these minerals in the formula (zinc mono-L-methionine, zinc/magnesium aspertate) lends them their exceptionally high bioavailability. Zinc mono-L-methionine is absorbed in the frontal part of the small intestine "to the mineral receptor", while zinc/magnesium aspertate are absorbed in the distal part of the small intestine by an active transport mechanism. In addition, the covalent binding between zinc, magnesium and aspartic acid allows the magnesium and zinc to enter the circulation simultaneously, and to act synergistically to obtain an optimal anabolic effect.

Vitamin B-6
The vitamin B6 in the formula improves the absorption of zinc and magnesium and influences protein synthesis.
In addition, vitamin B6 reduces the catabolic activity of the hormone cortisol. The combination of zinc and vitamin B6 increases the inhibition of 5-alpha reductase formation twofold

Working mechanism in the body
Z.M.A raises testosterone and IGF-1levels, helps to improve the strength component of the muscles and increases plasma magnesium and zinc concentrations.
Testosterone, the male sex hormone, is an anabolic steroid hormone. One of the main tasks of testosterone is to stimulate protein synthesis, which is the essence of its anabolic action, and the building up of muscular tissue.
The effect of growth hormone on cell division is indirect and mediated by the hormoneIGF-1.
IGF-1 (Insulin-Like Growth Factor), or somatomedin, is a polypeptide hormone produced in the liver in response to binding of growth hormone to liver cell receptors.
Circulatory IGF-1 reaching skeletal muscles and their surrounding tissues stimulates protein and cartilage synthesis, as well as cell division. In fact, IGF-1 is directly responsible for anabolic activity and tissue rehabilitation

Summary
Consumption of Z.M.A before bedtime helps to build up and rehabilitate the muscles.
Consumption of the supplement (30 to 60 minutes before bedtime) is in tune with the secretion of anabolic hormones (growth hormone and testosterone), which occurs mainly during deep sleep stages (stages 3 and 4, which occur 60 to 90 minutes f-rom the moment of falling asleep, are defined as the deep sleep stages). Taking Z.M.A at the recommended time, i.e., 60 to 90 minutes before bedtime, optimizes anabolic processes.
Taking Z.M.A close to bedtime also improves the quality of sleep, which is of benefit to recovery and rehabilitation processes after a physical effort.

Recommended usage:
Men: 3 capsules before bedtime, on empty stomach
Women: 2 capsules before bedtime, on empty stomach

Remark:
Taking calcium supplementation close to Z.M.A ingestion may impair absorption of the minerals in the Z.M.A formula, since calcium inhibits absorption of the minerals in the formula.

It is therefore recommended to take calcium supplementation at least two hours before ingestion of Z.M.A
